About

Le Case di Micòl is a European project funded by the CERV – Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values programme. It is dedicated to Jewish memory, intergenerational transmission, and the dialogue between history, cinema, and European citizenship.

Where Memory Lives

Le Case di Micòl begins with a fundamental question:

"How can a broken life be found again?"

From this question grew a collective effort that brought together historians, students, filmmakers, and educators to rediscover the homes and stories of Jewish women and families erased during the Shoah.

Our European Partnership

The project is coordinated by Ferrara la Città del Cinema, in partnership with prestigious institutions and four European film schools.

Institutional Partners

  • MEIS – National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah
  • Giorgio Bassani Foundation
  • Ferrara Institute of Contemporary History (ISCO)

Project Actions:
From Archives to Cinema

The project combines historical research and creative practice through the following core actions

  • Archival Investigations: Identifying the “Houses of Micòl” — the homes where the protagonists lived their last moments of happiness before persecution.
  • Audiovisual Workshops: Involving over 1,000 film students, transforming historical research into cinematic storytelling.
  • Film Production: Production of four short films, one for each participating country (Italy, Poland, Belgium, and the Czech Republic).
  • Interactive Digital Platform: Creation of the European Map of the Houses of Micòl, a real and virtual itinerary of remembrance.
  • Public Events: Including the international conference “Memories from an Enchanted Garden” in Ferrara.

What's Next?

The project will culminate in a final event in Ferrara, featuring the screening of the short films and the presentation of the project’s results.

Further sections will soon include the event curated by the MEIS and the educational workshop for schools.

Le Case di Micòl brings together memory and creativity, history and participation.
